National Triathlon Series Secures New Location

The rapid growth of one of the North Shore's most popular sporting events has forced Sanitarium to secure a new venue on the Hibiscus Coast to accommodate the growing demand.

The event, which has previously been held at Narrowneck Beach for 10 years, has now outgrown the site and to ensure that all Kiwi Kids can participate in the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon, a decision was made to move the event to Big Manly Bay on the Hibiscus Coast.

The General Manager of Sanitarium, Pierre van Heerden, says organisers are excited about the new venue and look forward to welcoming all previous Narrowneck Beach TRYathletes as well as first time TRYathletes from the Hibiscus Coast area.

"In 2016 we're expecting to have 2,300 participants from the North Shore region - that's around 10 percent of the total number involved throughout the country. Each of those will have a support team with them and we want to make sure we can accommodate them too.”

"The move to the new Hibiscus Coast venue will mean better road access for parents and supporters as well allowing us to accommodate 1,000 more participants than we would have been able to at Narrowneck Beach this year" he says.

Over the past few years, the Narrowneck Beach venue has been dampened with traffic congestion problems for families departing the sell-out event. The Council advised that in order to remain at the current venue, they would have to drastically reduce participant numbers, he says.

The Hibiscus Coast Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon event on April 3 has 2,300 available places, with entries for children aged between 7-15 years open from the 21st of September 2015.

Participants can sign up for the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon as individuals, or in a team of two, with all participants receiving a race pack, T-shirt, swim cap and participation certificate and medal.

The 2014-15 Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon series hit record numbers with over 24,000 participants in 14 event locations around the country.
