Weetbix Tryathlon
Less than two weeks left to register for the Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon
Valerie Adams and Anna Harrison attending the event
Auckland kids only have less than two weeks left to sign up for the Manukau Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon.
The event which is all about encouraging kids aged seven to 15-years-old to give it a try, will be held at Mountfort Park, Manurewa on December 3, 2014 and registrations close on November 27, 2014.
The TRYathlon is a rite-of-passage for Kiwi kids and boosts a child’s self-esteem. This year participants will have the chance to meet sporting celebrities Valerie Adams and Anna Harrison who will also be attending the event.
Last year’s series was a huge successful with three sold out events and 22,000 children taking part.
The response from parents of kids who participated last year was also positive with a survey showing that 84% of children “really enjoyed” taking part, while an amazing 95% felt positive about finishing the event.
Pierre van Heerden, General Manager for Sanitarium Health & Wellbeing Company says building happy, healthy children and communities is what the TRYathlon is all about.
“Every year it’s fantastic to receive positive feedback on an event which grows-year-on-year and we expect this series to be no different.
“It’s so important for kids to get active at a young age and it’s great to be involved in an event which encourages them to do just this in a fun environment,” says Mr van Heerden.
There are 14 events across New Zealand running from December until April, and kids can enter the TRYathlon as individuals or in a team of two.
The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is the world’s largest triathlon Series for under 16s and every child who participates receives a certificate and a medal along with a race pack, a race T-shirt, and a swim cap for all swimmers.
To ensure even more children can take part, teachers and community leaders can apply for support on behalf of a child through the Weet-Bix Foundation. The Foundation provides worthy nominees with a subsidy of Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon entry fees, or a subsidy of necessary equipment to complete the event.
The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon events have a limited number of places available, so schools and individuals who want to be involved should get in as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Entries cost $42.50 per person but entries are discounted if you enter in a team of two, as part of a family, or as part of a school. There is also an early bird price for the 2015 events until December 19, 2014 of $35 per person.
The swim-bike-run events kicks off in Manukau on December 3, and run through summer until the New Plymouth event on April 01. Distances differ depending on the age of the child entered.
Registrations for the 2014-2015 Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Series and nominations for Weet-Bix TRYathlon Foundation can be completed online at http://tryathlon.weetbix.co.nz/ or by calling 09 531 5080.
