Skills Active and Sport New Zealand have signed a ground-breaking agreement that will see the two organisations working together to boost the capability and training opportunities for the thousands of New Zealanders working across our sport and recreation industries.
‘This Memorandum of Understanding marks an exciting step forward in a collaborative approach to understanding and meeting the needs of organisations and individuals in this sector, now and into the future,’ said Skills Active chief executive Dr Grant Davidson.
‘It makes sense for Skills Active and Sport NZ to work side by side. Skills Active is the standard-setting and qualification development body for sport and recreation, and Sport NZ has a sound knowledge of the labour market and skills requirements, gained through its extensive partnerships and research in this sector.
‘Together we will be able to share efforts, resources and contacts within our industries to provide clear, credible and accessible career pathways,’ Dr Davidson said.
Peter Miskimmin, Sport New Zealand CEO, says the closer relationship will ensure there’s a strong pipeline of skilled, capable people and organisations who can provide opportunities for New Zealanders everywhere to get involved, or stay involved, in sport.
‘Our mission is to create a world class sports system at all levels, and the backbone of that is people. The sport sector needs good people, from governance and management level through to our hundreds of thousands of volunteers, many of whom spend some time in the sector’s paid workforce. We’re pleased to be able to work with Skills Active to meet the vocational needs of the sport and recreation industry at all levels,’ Mr Miskimmin said.
