Richter City Roller Derby Home Season Final – Double Header!
On Saturday 24 September at Kilbirnie Recreation Centre, Richter City Roller Derby (RCRD) will be hosting a double header to finish off what has been an intense and close-to- call home team season. Two awesome games for the price of one!
The first bout of the evening will be between our third place home team, Brutal Pageant, and the Whenua Fatales Roller Derby League (Levin) at 5pm. Brutal Pageant took out the Home Season Final last year after beating both Smash Malice and Comic Slams for the top spot.
Make sure you stick around because at 7pm, the main event, Comic Slams and Smash Malice will be on the track to decide who will take home the trophy for 2016!
Last year’s final was a close game between Smash Malice and Brutal Pageant and it looks like this year will be just as close, with Comic Slams taking a victory from Brutal Pageant earlier in the year and Smash Malice winning by only 30 points in their last game against Comic Slams at the beginning of the month.
The home season final always creates a lot of excitement for fans and skaters, and it should be quite an atmosphere for all. Hell Pizza will be available at the game, along with the Garage Project Bar (alcohol will not be served to minors) and a variety of other awesome food options. There will also be RCRD exclusive merchandise available and a stall featuring goods from one of RCRD’s sponsors, Thunderpants.
RCRD Sponsor Te Aro Physiotherapy & Pilates will be on hand for skaters and Wellington Free Ambulance will also be present, but in the hopes they’re not needed and can just enjoy the game. And to ensure the safety of our fans, the first 3 rows of the up-close 'suicide seating' right next to the track are aged 18+ only, but there is tiered seating available as well.
As always Smash Malice will be sporting their team colours of black, gold and leopard print and Comic Slams in their blue and silver. This year, Smash Malice is being captained by Skanda Lass and Tino TurnHer, two Richter City All Stars and seasoned Smash Malice players. Leading Comic Slams is RCRD All Star skater Tuff Bikkies.
There’s a lot of pro leadership behind these teams and this season has seen some great strategy and play, but it all comes down to the final.
Doors open at 4pm, the first game starts at 5pm with the home season final starting at 7pm – tickets available at:http://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2016/roller-derby-season-final-smash-malice-vs-comic-slams/wellington . It's best to arrive early to ensure a seat. For media access requests or more info email: [email protected]
