Tickets for Show Me Shorts 2016 gala events now on sale
Tickets for the Auckland and Wellington gala launch events for New Zealand’s leading international short film festival, Show Me Shorts, are now on sale. It’s a record-breaking year already with over 1,500 submissions received from more than 60 countries - a massive 50 per cent increase on last year.
From these 1,500 short films, the programming team need to select just 40 films and six music videos to include in this year’s line-up.
This year, the Festival will travel to more than 25 cinemas across Aotearoa, from Kaitaia to Stewart Island.
The Opening Night and Awards Ceremony will be held on 1 October at The Civic in Auckland, where Show Me Shorts brings together both film makers and film enthusiasts to celebrate the best and brightest in the industry. The event is a glamourous night out, this year hosted by comedian and actress, Jackie van Beek (Funny Girls, What We Do In The Shadows).
Winners in nine categories are awarded on the night and the audience gets the first glimpse of the winning films. As New Zealand’s only Academy Awards®-accredited film festival, winners of the Lightbox Best Film Award and the Best International Film Award automatically receive qualification for entry into the 2017 Academy Awards®.
The Wellington Opening Night will be held at The Embassy on 13 October. This is the first time that the festival has screened at the most prestigious cinema in arguably New Zealand’s film capital.
Tickets for Auckland’s Opening Night and Awards Ceremony are available through Ticketmaster. Tickets for the Wellington Opening Night are available through The Embassy website.
Show Me Shorts ambassador Miranda Harcourt said, “Show Me Shorts goes from strength to strength. I am proud to be helping to spread the word about the great stories and amazing craft that NZ produces by always showing NZ shorts in my classes. But I am only one person! If it wasn’t for Show Me Shorts and their great networks, far fewer people would be seeing and enjoying NZ work on screen.”
