Towers: 7 Days, Awards,
Collaborations and a debut single for this Wellington
band
Last month Towers performed on New Zealand comedy show 7 Days, the next day they competed in the national Battle of the Bands competition and came away with awards for Best Vocals and Best Songwriting and in May they had a month long feature on Stuff covering famous kiwi tunes for New Zealand music month. Somewhere in there they also found time to record a track with New Zealand’s Got Talent winner Clara van Wel. On Friday the group release their first single ‘Suede & Leather Dreams’.
The track, recorded in the Gold Coast at Loose Stones Studios (Broods, Jarryd James and Matt Corby are just some of the artists to have graced their halls) and mastered at the prodigious Sterling Sound in New York, is the first track from their debut EP Brontide, which they are hoping to release early 2016.
“Brontide means ‘the distant rumbling of thunder’ which we thought was apt as the entire process has been exciting and terrifying, kind of like when you know there’s going to be a huge storm” As the group is self-funded and managed they had to call on their talented friends for help to release 'Suede & Leather Dreams'. The artwork was crafted by local designers Renee Cotton and Daniel van Polanen, the video directed by up-and-coming young director Alex Liu.
“The whole project has been incredibly collaborative - we’ve worked with so many talented people to make this all come to life - it has a little piece of each person who helped in it, which is really cool" 'Suede & Leather Dreams' is set for release on Friday 2 October.
About The
Band:
Formed in 2013, Towers are an
award-winning indie pop band from New Zealand. The
five-piece, made up of Sam Cotton, Jesse Finn, Steffan
Paton, Connor Scott and Kenyon Shankie, describe their sound
as blending elements of synth pop and folk with a focus on
their dual vocals.
2015 has been a whirlwind year for the group - they’ve won some awards, played on prime time television, had a month-long feature on Stuff.co.nz, been involved with several collaborative projects and completed their debut EP ‘Brontide’.
They are very proud of their performance on the comedy show 7 Days - they got to say a rather naughty curse word on National TV and Dai Henwood told them; "Cut your throats out, dip them in gold and put them in the pool room 'cause you sound bloody amazing”, which was cool.
Towers have another single, in addition to 'Suede & Leather Dreams’, slated for release later in the year. It is a collab track co-written and performed by New Zealand’s Got Talent winner Clara van Wel called ‘Radio Silence’.
