Tactix Name 2016 ANZ Championship Team

4 August 2015

The Mainland Tactix are pleased to announce the core of the team has re-signed for the 2016 ANZ Championship season including captain Anna Thompson for what will be her ninth season with the franchise.

Mainland Netball have been resolute in their determination to keep the core of the 2015 team together with ten players recommitting for another season, with the addition of two exciting new youngsters Olivia Coughlan and Charlotte Elley, making up the full squad of 12.

The team will be coached again by Sue Hawkins and assistant coach Marianne Delaney-Hoshek.
Netball Mainland CEO Brigit Hearn says they’re thrilled the players are recognising the great culture, support services and high performance coaching in the Mainland.

“We have some experienced heads in there with some young exciting talent. The team improved significantly through the course of the last season culminating in a win over the Kia Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, the eventual New Zealand Conference winners.”

“I’m really excited and can’t wait for the 2016 ANZ Championship season to start,” Hearn said.

Captain Anna Thompson has played in both midcourt and shooting positions for the Tactix since 2008 and is an integral part of the Tactix senior leadership team.

Bailey Mes is in the current Silver Ferns squad for the 2014-2015 season. The 1.87m shooter has shown steady improvement over the season with her accuracy rates continuing to advance.

Nelson born defender Zoe Walker, will play her third season with the Mainland team in 2016, having recently been named in the New Zealand A team.

Jess Moulds joined the Tactix in 2014, after three seasons with the SKYCITY Mystics and has cemented her spot in the defensive end with a high work rate.

Defensive mid-courter Hayley Saunders has played in the ANZ Championship since 2010 and brings a wealth of experience to the team. A Tactix team member since 2014, Saunders is a key link in the midcourt bringing turnover ball quickly down through court.

Erikana Pedersen has grown her game exponentially at the Tactix after just one season. The talented young midcourt dynamo played nine games for the Tactix in 2015 and is a member of the NNZ Development squad.

Mainland Netball home-grown talent, Charlotte Elley, joins the roster for the first time. Elley is a member of the Netball New Zealand National Development Squad in the U21 tier and was a member of the New Zealand Secondary Schools team in 2014.

Exciting Malawian import Mwai Kumwenda, Silver Ferns trialist Gemma Hazeldine, midcourter Nicola Mackle, defenders Louise Thayer and Olivia Coughlan round out the roster.

The full Mainland Tactix Squad were signed before the ‘black-out’ period around the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015.

The Mainland Tactix 2016 ANZ Championship roster:
Olivia Coughlan, Charlotte Elley, Gemma Hazeldine, Mwai Kumwenda, Nicola Mackle, Bailey Mes, Jess Moulds, Erikana Pedersen, Hayley Saunders, Louise Thayer, Anna Thomson and Zoe Walker.
