NNZ Events Calendar for 2015 Confirmed

Netball New Zealand (NNZ) is pleased to confirm the dates, venues and locations for the 2015 domestic Netball season.

For the first time ever, the South Island town of Ashburton will host the New Zealand Secondary Schools Netball Tournament (NZSS) in October which is an exciting development.

Sixteen of the best high school teams from around the country will converge in the small Canterbury town for what is often the most highly anticipated tournament of the season.

NNZ Chief Executive Officer Hilary Poole says the opportunity to take a national event to the Mid-Canterbury town is exciting.

“To take the NZSS event to the new EA Networks Centre in Ashburton is a coup for both NNZ and for the town and we know the teams will warm quickly to the mid-Canterbury hospitality,” she said.

“And we’re also thrilled the NZ Age Group Championships U17 will be at the Harbourside Netball Centre in Mount Maunganui. We think it’s important to take our iconic tournaments to the towns and cities around the country and we will continue to do so.”

The first event of the year will be hosted at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua. The Trans-Tasman U19 Netball Tournament will feature a new format in 2015 with four teams competing for the title.

The New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS) team to compete in the tournament will be selected after trials next month and they will contest the Australian U19 A and B team (Australia Green and Australia Gold) and the Aotearoa Maori U19 team.

Following soon after on the events calendar is the College Netball Grand Final at The Trusts Arena in Auckland on June 1st with Mount Albert Grammar School out to defend their College Netball title.

In July, the New Zealand Age Group Championships U19 and U23 tournament will also be held at The Trusts Arena in Auckland followed by the only outdoor event of the season; the New Zealand Age Group Championships U17 at the Harbourside Netball Centre at Mount Maunganui.

ASB Centre in Wellington is the venue for the Lion Foundation Netball Centre Championships (previously Lion Foundation Netball Champs), and will feature New Zealand’s top Netballer’s competing for their local Netball Centres.
