Hip Op-eration Crew Inspiring The World
The much
anticipated DVD of the film ‘Hip Hoperation’ featuring
Waiheke Island’s Hip Op-eration Crew is now available for
purchase through the Hip Op-eration Crew’s website.
The feature documentary film about the Hip Op-eration Crew has received world-wide recognition and was voted the 4th most popular film out of 300 other finalists at the prestigious International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. It also won Best Documentary, Best Director and Best Cinematographer at the NZ Film Awards in December.
Although the Hip Op-eration Crew does not receive any royalties or payment for being in the film, they will receive a donation for every DVD purchased directly through their website.
“We’re really delighted Rialto has given us this opportunity to raise some funds for our charity. People presume we received money for being in the film, but we didn’t get a dime and never will. However this is standard practice for documentaries; as it would affect the integrity of the film if people got paid to be in them,” says Hip Op-eration Crew Manager Billie Jordan.
“It would be fantastic if kiwi’s supported our charity by purchasing the DVD directly through us. The price is $28 and includes postage and handling. This way my crew will be able to continue inspiring others around the globe,” says Billie.
The film has been so popular it’s been invited to feature in film festivals all over the world including Berlin, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Australia, USA and Israel.
“We are really looking forward to the film playing in cinemas in the USA, Australia, Japan and England as we think those markets will help generate extra tourism for New Zealand. Within the next four years, millions and millions of people will have seen the film and made an emotional connection to New Zealand and our people. The film is a great way to promote our country and the spirit of our people to a captive audience. I really hope people can support our charity by purchasing the DVD from us,” says Billie.
Each DVD costs $28 and includes postage and handling. To buy a DVD just go to the Hip Op-eration Crew’s website at www.hipop-eration.com or visit their Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/thehipoperationcrew
The Hip Op-eration Crew is the world's oldest dance troupe (Guinness World Records, 2014) and consists of 22 dancers aged 68 to 95 years old. 13 members are in their 80's and 90's, four members use mobility aids, seven members are deaf and one is legally blind. There are 17 women and 5 men in the group. They performed at the World Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas in 2013 and have competed in the NZ Hip Hop Championships twice (2013 and 2014). In November they performed to 16,000 people in the Taipei Stadium in Taiwan.
