Air New Zealand's GENIUS Hobbit themed safety video 24 Oct 2014
Giving flyers an Unexpected Journey! Elijah Wood and Sir Peter Jackson star in 'epic' Hobbit themed Air New Zealand safety video
Air New Zealand has been a big supporter of The Hobbit over the past couple of years – and even has a Middle-earth plane.
And on Wednesday the airline released their second safety video (and third in total) themed around the franchise to promote the upcoming third movie in the trilogy, Battle Of The Five Armies.
Appropriately titled The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made, it even features appearances by Elijah Wood, famed for playing Frodo Baggins in the Lord Of The Rings saga and the first Hobbit film, and director of all six movies Sir Peter Jackson.
Surprise!: Elijah Wood stars in Air New Zealand's latest Hobbit themed safety video
Sylvester McCoy (who plays Radagast) and Dean O’Gorman (Fili the Dwarf) also make cameo appearances.
What’s more, director Taika Waititi (who helmed the video) portrays a version of Gandalf, while baseball player Naoyuki Shimizu can be seen as a passenger.
Just like the previous Hobbit safety video for the airline, this one informs passengers of the vital information they need to know before take-off while managing to be entertaining at the same time.
Special guest: Sylvester McCoy (who plays Radagast) popped up a couple of times in the clip too
However the new clip takes viewers on an Unexpected Journey through Middle-earth.
After narrowly avoiding missing their flight, two Hobbit fans are mystified – and delighted – when they spot Elijah sitting beside them and are swiftly transported to the fictional universe created by J. R. R. Tolkein.
While there, they fly on Great Eagles, cuddle up to Rhosgobel rabbits, and one ends up bungee jumping to retrieve the Ring after dropping it in the water.
Magic: The pair are then transported to Middle-earth, the setting of The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings
At the end of the exciting four and a half minute video, Elijah says: ‘Thank you for embarking upon your journey with Air New Zealand.
‘May your path always be guided by the light of the stars, and may the future bestow upon you all the happiness and adventure our Middle-earth has to offer.’
After he puts on the Ring and disappears, Sir Peter Jackson pops into the frame and adds: ‘That’s a wrap everyone. I hope you enjoyed it.’
Ahoy there: Dean O’Gorman (who plays Fili the Dwarf) can be seen enjoying some casual kayaking
He also said in a statement: ‘Air New Zealand has created yet another fantastic video to celebrate The Hobbit films. I had a lot of fun on the set with Taika and the team and look forward to seeing the video on board.’
The airline has also had a safety video featuring the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue models, as well as one with Bear Grylls and another starring Betty White.
The Hobbit: Battle Of The Five Armies will be released in the UK on December 12 and the US on December 17.
