NZ home to world's best boutique villa resort 4 Dec 2013
An exclusive retreat in Northland has taken out one of the top honours at the World Travel Awards in Qatar.
Eagles Nest – which plays host to Hollywood celebs and business moguls – now boasts the title of the World’s Leading Boutique Villa Resort.
General manager Callum Farnell was at the prestigious awards ceremony in Doha to accept the accolade and says it was one of the most exciting nights of his career.
“It was truly a humbling experience,” he says.
Paying tribute to the all-Kiwi staff at Eagles Nest, Farnell says the award is proof that “the New Zealand luxury sector is in very good hands”.
Eagle’s Nest is located on a 75-acre estate near Russell in the Bay of Islands.
Celebrities rumoured to have stayed there include Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart and Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.
It was also the setting for the final episode of season 13 of US reality TV show ‘The Bachelor’.
The five luxury villas are available fully-staffed with personal chefs, trainers, massage therapists and chauffeurs.
They range in price from $2346 per night to $20,000-plus in peak season.
