Latest King in the Ring set for world title fight in Auckland
The current 62kg King in the Ring champion, Joey ‘the Filipino kid’ Baylon is set to fight for his first world title in an international match against Australian Benny Thompson on Friday night in Auckland.
On the same night eight of New Zealand’s best super cruiserweights will be fighting for the first ever 92kg King in the Ring crown.
King in the Ring attracts tens of thousands of viewers and followers from across the world and is the biggest kickboxing event in this country.
Promoter and six time Muay Thai world champion Jason Suttie says this event is one of the best yet with a new weight division and a new world title fight.
“When you are crowned King in the Ring you are the best in New Zealand and you deserve a shot at a world title.
“Earlier this year Victor ‘Slick’ Mechkov, the current 75kg King in the Ring, won his world title fight and now Joey gets his chance.
Suttie also says the fight for the 92kg crown shouldn’t be missed.
“92kgs is enough to knock anyone out even if you don’t know how to punch. But combine that brute force with fitness and an even match up and you’re going to get some explosive fights in the ring,” Suttie says.
Suttie is also bringing a Mixed Martial Arts fight in to the King in the Ring format for the first time.
Eugene Bareman of City Kickboxing will fight Beau Rawiri of Strikeforce.
It is a show for kiwis, by kiwis and featuring kiwis and can be viewed in person at the ASB stadium in Auckland in front of a packed crowd of fans, on Sky Sport (including Sky Fan Pass) and on an international live stream on Friday 18th November at 7pm.
Tune in to the King in the Ring Facebook page to see the full line-up and the footage.
About King in the
Ring
King in the Ring is New Zealand’s premier kickboxing event. The tournament is run under K-1 Kickboxing rules and the format requires the winner to defeat three opponents in a single night.
It was started in 2011 by six-time World Champion, K-1 New Zealand Champion and trainer of multiple world champions Jason Suttie. It has now become renowened on the world stage for its ability to create even matches and has become the event professional athletes flock to.
King in the Ring has tens of thousands of followers from around the world and can be seen in person at the ASB stadium, live on Sky Sport and it’s also available internationally on a dedicated King in the Ring channel.
