BMW Race Series change opens entry for NZ cars

Press release: Castrol BMW Race Driver Series.
For immediate release: Monday 18 July 2016.

Aspirants wanting to go car racing have an opportunity to apply for the car-supplied costs-covered Castrol BMW Race Driver Series Scholarship being held at the end of July at Hampton Downs.

The series covers seven-rounds that visits all of the North Island race circuits from mid-September 2016 to early April 2017 and will include one extra car in the E30 category – for the winning applicant.

The package includes use of the race-prepared BMW E30 for the season, entry fee costs covered, a tyre and brake package, theft and on road insurance, plus assistance with other costs for any driver fitting the judging criteria set.

Explaining what sort of applicant they are looking to fill the position, PassRite boss and avid BMW racer Fred Bardon says it largely comes down to their attitude.

“The scholarship is an opportunity for someone with little or no racing experience to demonstrate their passion and drive to match the BMW marque of precision and quality – while being part of a close knit community,” said Bardon.

“What they get in return is a race-ready and race prepared car they use at each of the seven race meetings – with tuition and resource to support their learning and future direction.

“There are two aspects to the day: their answers to interview questions regarding their purpose and direction as a driver, and the on-track driver assessments. That side of it is further broken in to sub-steps where we evaluate their ability to act on instruction and the putting of things in to practice.

“We are looking for a person who shows potential. That they’ve listened and are committed – that’s the person we want.

“Overall, the day is about providing a learning environment that regardless of the outcome upskills and immerses them in the culture of the series – so they then they find their own way to continue the momentum and join our growing family.”

Last season 108 drivers competed across the three categories within a series, that upholds a driving standard that mixes competition with off-track interaction.

“The series strength is its people – we are a close group who spend days together socially and do things to support each other – there is a strong comradeship.

Further details about the scholarship and day can be found on the series Facebook page facebook.com/BMWRDSNZ or website http://www.bmwraceseries.co.nz/?page_id=352 with entry to be mailed to [email protected]

Supporters of the series and scholarship car include BMW New Zealand, Castrol, TransVision Graphics, Toyo tyres, Koni shocks/King Springs, Stocks, P and S Autocentre, Tracktime and Classic Car Cover.
