MARWIN GC32 Set to Fly In the City of Sails
Bay of Islands, New Zealand – 11 FEBRUARY 2016
MARWIN Racing Team will set sail in
Auckland in March following an action packed debut in New
Zealand waters.
Twenty-five sailors from close to 90
applicants and expressions of interest joined GC32 skipper
Flavio Marazzi and team manager Sharon Ferris-Choat at their
team base in Russell, the Bay of Islands over the course of
January.
An intensive month of sailing included coastal racing, competing in local events, guest sailing, fitness sessions, speed challenges, and lining up against fellow GC32 Team Vodafone Sailing during Bay of Islands Sailing Week.
Sharon says they’re planning to carry the momentum through to Auckland.
“It’s been an action packed month. We’ve had a massive amount of interest from some very talented sailors who have trialled out for our team and a very positive response from the community. We’re excited to bring MARWIN Racing Team to Auckland for the next phase,” she says.
One of the main events MARWIN Racing will compete in is the Jack Tar Auckland Regatta hosted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron from March 18-20.
MARWIN’s campaign revolves around having a mixed squad with a five-year plan to race on the GC32 racing tour in Europe while keeping a training base in New Zealand for the southern hemisphere summer.
The GC32 Racing Tour is an innovative series of events held throughout Europe whereby the team with the best results from the series is the overall winner.
Following on from a successful tour in 2015, team MARWIN is excited to be building a squad of eight sailors in New Zealand to compete on the 2016 Tour which begins in May.
The team is actively seeking sponsorship and anyone interested as a private or corporate sponsor is encouraged to make contact.
The chance to become an ‘active sponsor’ also includes an opportunity to join the team and get foiling during MARWIN’s time in Auckland.
MARWIN Racing Team will be sailing in Auckland from 3-21 March.
