HOMETRACK ADVANTAGE FOR LAURIE

Katie Laurie took every advantage of her home track, coming home victorious in the Equissage Horse Grand Prix at the APL Showjumping Waikato Festival of Jumping today.

Aboard nine-year-old Dunstan Lucca, Laurie (Mystery Creek) headed home 12 other combinations to take the class.

Just four came back for the jump-off over the Phillipa Howells course. Laurie was out first and says she opted for a safe clear coming home in 44.25 seconds.

She was faster with her second horse Dunstan On The Point Eve, but paid for her speed with a rail at the last finishing on four faults in 39.08.

However, Paula Mussen (Pukekohe) and KK Tane Mahuta were the ones to really light up the arena – they took an inside turn no-one else dared to and clocked the fastest time of 36.7 seconds but took the last.
Rachel Malcolm (Cambridge) and her youngster eight-year-old Equador MVNZ rode a super clear round to take second place in 45.58.

It is the first win for Dunstan Lucca in some time although the horse has been very consistent in the minor placings.

In the Country TV Pony Grand Prix 20 combinations lined up but the day belonged to Emma Watson (Morrinsville) and the former Pony of the Year Fun House.

The combination were the fastest by a long shot, going double clear in 32.62. Behind them was Leeshelle Small (Ramarama) and AMS Tallyho Bandit who were the only other combination to finish on a clean slate in a time of 39.29.

Emily Hayward-Morgan (Te Awamutu) continued her successful charge, winning the Canterbury Equestrian Young Rider class aboard Yandoo Lady Gold, placing fourth on AP Ninja, and taking out the Telford Junior Rider class on Wasabi.

The top classes brought to an end a show that everyone in praising for its great grounds, good jumps and excellent courses.
