Whittaker bags a double at Waimate
Steffi Whittaker has stamped an early mark on the 2015/2016 season capturing the Country TV Pony Grand Prix/Telford Junior Rider double at the South Canterbury North Otago ESNZ Spring Has Sprung Show in Waimate today.
The 15-year-old Lincoln High School student was all class in the Country TV Pony Grand Prix aboard the spunky chestnut Moonlight Glow posting the only double clear in the 6-strong class to take the honours ahead of Lucy Turner on Tallyho Mystic as the fastest of the four faulters.
Having finished second on debut in the Telford Junior Rider at Otago with new ride Ngahiwi Cruise last weekend, Whittaker went one better, scoring a well-deserved victory. Fifteen started the class, with six combinations going through to the jump-off. Jumping last, Whittaker posted a clear round in a speedy 36.94 seconds, to finish more than half a second ahead of second-placed Jamiee Bird (Rakaia) on Wenrose Vertigo.
Leeston’s Rose Alfeld posted her first Grand Prix win of the new season aboard My Super Nova winning the Equissage Horse Grand Prix with a lovely double clear, backing up from finishing second and fifth on Capprerra and My Super Nova respectively in the Canterbury Equestrian Young Rider yesterday, which was taken out by current Young Rider of the Year Olivia Robertson (Ohoka) on DHs Ceniki. Robertson’s form continued finishing second and third in the Grand Prix aboard Ngahiwi Cisco and DHs Ceniki, respectively.
The Caledonian Holdings Amatuer was won by Amanda Roy (Clinton) on Rumours NZPH, while the Pro-Amateur went to Chris Harris (Alyesbury) on Glenbrooke Archie Bunker and Nicole White (Invercargill) and Cricklewood Ace won the Euro Sport Elite Rider for the over-21-year-old riders.
