Kiwi Artem Sitak braves soaring temperatures and a lengthy battle to make it into the second round of doubles at Wimbledon.
Kiwi Davis Cup player Artem Sitak survived sizzling temperatures and a marathon match to advance to the second round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon.
Sitak, playing on a day when the mercury touched 41.2C on court, battled with partner American Nicholas Monroe for three hours and 22 minutes before emerging triumphant.
The pair downed German Dustin Brown and Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4 3-6 10-8.
Davis Cup teammate Marcus Daniell also joined him in the second round after teaming with Brazilian Macelo Demoliner to defeat Robin Haase (Netherlands) and Frenchman Benoit Paire 6-3 7-6(4) 6-1 in one hour 45 minutes.
They face Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Tunisian Malek Jaziri in the next round after they upset the tournament's fifth seeds.
Mike Venus, the third Kiwi male in doubles action, takes to the court with Croatian partner Mate Pavic on Thursday.
Also in action is Marina Erakovic, who was knocked out in the first round of singles, and she partners local Heather Watson.
