LG 100 Greatest Fans Campaign pits country against country to find the world’s most passionate cricket fan

Auckland, February 3, 2015 — In the weeks leading up to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup 2015, LG Electronics (LG) has brought a different kind of showdown to cricket fans across the world, the LG 100 Greatest Fans Campaign. The LG 100 Greatest Fans Campaign — a programme for cricket fans in 14 countries participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, including New Zealand, Australia, India, UAE and UK — has been offering a fun, social way for cricket fans to show their passion and love for the games and teams.

Over the last month, from January 5, more than 1,820,000 cricket fans have visited the official campaign website (www.lg100greatestfans.com) and uploaded nearly 25,000 photos, videos, recordings, and messages in an effort to convince the world that they rank among cricket’s 100 greatest fans. Participants earn points toward the title by sharing their submissions on social media and getting clicks from other fans.

Passionate appeals and creative submissions have been uploaded by fans from every corner of the globe.

After the competition ends on February 6, the top 14 fans from each country will get the title of ‘world’s most passionate cricket fan’ and receive two tickets, flights and accommodation to watch the final match live.

The LG 100 Greatest Fans will have their names memorialised across a series of benches that will sit in Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand, where the opening match will be held.

LG’s Campaign also contains a team component. Points received by each participant are awarded to their respective country, to see which country has the most passionate supporters. The country with the most points will receive US$50,000 worth of contributions from LG to youth cricket programmes. As of February 3, Bangladesh sits atop the country standings with 1,208,990 points.

“The LG 100 Greatest Fans Campaign is LG’s latest programme in a long history of notable contributions to the cricket world and 17-year partnership with ICC,” said Wayne Park, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Global Sales and Marketing. “As the commercial partner of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, we wanted to repay that passion by bringing fans together so they could share in the love of the sport, and ultimately contribute to the success of the Cricket World Cup this year.”

Details about how to participate in the LG 100 Greatest Fans Campaign can be found at www.lg100greatestfans.com. Votes are open until February 6 and results will be announced on February 9.
