Tactix Heading to Blenheim for Games in 2015 ANZ Championship Netball Season
Media
Release
29 August 2014
Top trans-Tasman netball is heading to Blenheim with the Tactix playing two home matches in the Marlborough region in 2015.
The ANZ Championship draw for next season’s home games has been released and while Nelson misses out next season, Blenheim will enjoy hosting two matches for the very first time.
Netball Mainland CEO Brigit Hearn says with Trafalgar Centre in Nelson unavailable and the Saxton Stadium now carrying a heavy load of events, along with Horncastle Arena in Christchurch, the opportunity to introduce live ANZ Championship netball to Blenheim was a key consideration.
“ANZ Championship matches played in Nelson over the past few years have clearly demonstrated that there is a strong appetite for top level netball in the Upper South Island and we are delighted to now offer matches to the Marlborough District,” she said.
“We now have two excellent options in both Blenheim and Nelson, so it’s a win-win for Netball Mainland and netball supporters throughout the Zone.”
“Our Netball supporters from Nelson and Tasman are outstanding and we are looking forward to their continued support and hope to bring matches back to the region for the 2016 season.”
The two matches scheduled for Blenheim in 2015 are expected to gain huge local support with the Marlborough District Council right behind the Tactix team.
Hearn says it’s important to look at the big picture and that organising a comprehensive netball draw across two countries, with ten teams, venue availability and different broadcast requirements means that the Zone is required to be flexible in regards to the shape of the draw.
“Nelson’s Saxton Stadium is now a busy and sought after destination for community and sporting events, so consideration had to be given in regards to venue availability, especially with the ANZ Championship operating across two countries.”
The ANZ Championship draw is constructed by TTNL, operators of the league, with all ten teams approaching their venues with possible dates and timings around matches over a 14-week period. The availability of venues is then submitted to TTNL to construct a draft draw, considered against the availability of all ten teams.
