Sport Waikato’s hunt for the Waikato’s top sportspeople and officials is on again.
Nominations for the 2014 District Sports Awards are now open and Sport Waikato community sport manager Roseanne Murray said it’s up to the community to make sure deserving sportspeople are acknowledged.
“These awards are an opportunity for our people to recognise their team mates, friends and family for what they’ve achieved throughout the year,” Murray says.
“Nominations are open until 10 October so there’s plenty of time and I really encourage the community to think about those who deserve recognition and take the time to make a nomination.”
Sport Waikato celebrates the efforts and achievements of sportspeople throughout the greater Waikato region each year by hosting eight district sports awards. Nominations can be made for sportspeople from any sporting organisation within the district in nine categories: Club of the Year, Referee/umpire of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, 40+ Sportsperson of the Year, Team of the Year, Junior Sportsperson of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Service to Sport. Nominees are judged on achievements from 1 November 2013 to 31 October 2014.
Nominees will be invited to an award function where the winners are announced. “The awards function is always a fantastic night out, and tickets will be available for purchase shortly” said Murray.
“The community gets to celebrate our shining sporting talent in style.”
Award functions are being held in Huntly, Matamata, Ngatea, Tokoroa, Cambridge, Otorohanga, Te Kuiti and Tuapo.
Winners on the night are forwarded to be judged as finalists for the prestigious Brian Perry Waikato Regional Sports Awards in January at Claudelands events centre.
If you know of someone in your district who deserves acknowledgment for their sporting achievement or outstanding support make sure you nominate them before 10 October. Nominations can be made online at sportwaikato.org.nz or collect a nomination pack from Brian Perry Sports House office on Avalon Drive
