Record breaking McLaughlin takes Hampton pole for MPC Team Supercheap

Scott McLaughlin confirmed his record breaking speed from morning practice with pole position for the first race of the fourth round of the V8 SuperTourer championship at Hampton Downs.
He held pole for much of the 20 minute session with his first banker lap on old tyres, before championship leader Jonny Reid beat his time by just two thousandths of a second. McLaughlin responded with a last lap of the session that was two tenths quicker than Reid's a pole position was his.

"After the dramas we have had as a team I'm just stoked to get the pole position," said McLaughlin, on a role after a win in the Dunlop Supercar series in Australia a fortnight ago.
"The MPC Supercheap team really deserve this pole position, they really have put a lot of time in to making the car reliable as well as fast." Team mate Geoff Emery confirmed the team’s speed at Hampton Downs with a season best 11th on the grid.

Andy Knight probably owes Emery a thank you, as he hit the Aussie hard in the closing stages of qualifying and may have gone off the track had he not made contact. Emery came away the innocent victim with more damage on his car, and Knight held it together and went on take an impressive third place.

Round One pole sitter here Kayne Scott bagged fourth ahead of Andy Booth, Ant Pedersen and Andre Heimgartner.

Series newcomers Daniel Gaunt and Angus Fogg line up 12th and 14th respectively.
