Hamilton rules out Cup bid
14 Dec 2009
Former All Blacks and Crusaders utility out-side back Scott Hamilton has ruled out making a bid for the All Blacks for the Rugby World Cup and has also announced that he is considering his future at the Leicester Tigers club.Hamilton said he thought his international career was over.
"I have toyed with going home but I have only been here a year and a bit. It would almost have been a waste of time coming over here for a short period of time.
"I'm committed to staying in the northern hemisphere for at least another two years," he said.
And while Hamilton is considering his future direction he said he knew the All Blacks were chasing his Leicester team-mate Aaron Mauger, who is also in contract negotiations with the club.
The 29-year-old fullback/wing is considering offers from French and English clubs.
Since joining the Leicester side in November last year, Hamilton has played 39 games for the club.
He told thisisleicestershire.co.uk: "I will know in the next two or three weeks, we are working through things at the moment.
"Come Christmas I should have a clearer picture of where that is.
"Leicester has been good. I could stay here, but I have other options as well. I am enjoying it here for sure, but we will wait and see.
"We have got a base here now, and it's good to be here. But there again there are options to go to different countries and live in different cultures.
"I've come from New Zealand and part of the attraction is improving yourself as a person, not just as a rugby player," he said.
Hamilton said the decision was not something that was a the forefront of his mind, he was leaving the work to his agent.
His mind is focused on the Heineken Cup at the moment and he was concentrating on that and trying not to be distracted by the transfer issue.
