Knowing and showing the the value of kapa haka

A free webinar

Monday, 19 September 12:30 pm - Book here.

Leonie Pihama, Dr Jillian Tipene and Herearoha Skipper describe the rich contribution that kapa haka makes, to social cohesion, to people's health, to education and to wealth in Aotearoa/New Zealand. We'll hear evidence that supports this.

This 90-minute webinar will share the voices and the passion of the composers, choreographers, tutors and performers who bring kapa haka to life every day on the marae, in schools and communities, and on national and international stages.

We’ll consider the value of evidence. We’ll discuss the benefits of investing in research, and of documenting our own practices, so that we and others can better understand our unique value. We’ll hear about current combined efforts, to build a research agenda for kapa haka in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Learning Outcomes:

• Learn how kapa haka enhances wellbeing for whanau and communities

• Gain an insight into Kaupapa Maori research methodologies

• Learn how the value of culture and knowledge may be weighed up and articulated, and how ‘value’ itself may be defined and measured.
