Since 2002 PACIFICA branches have been fundraising to build an education fund to provide educational grants to assist Pacific students with their educational development. By 2013, PACIFICA Inc was delighted to offer the following grants and scholarships:
P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Restart Tertiary Education Grants for a Pacific woman in each of the Northern Region, Central Region and Southern Region who, through changed circumstances, are currently undertaking tertiary education to improve employment options. Valued at $1500 per grant.
P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Secondary School Grants for a Pacific female or male Year 12 student in each of the Northern Region, Central Region and Southern Region who need support to continue with their secondary education. Valued at $500 per grant.
In 2016 we award and announce the P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A. Northern Region recipients for 2015 We congratulate Margaret Maria Craig-Seuala who is the chosen to receive Restart Tertiary Education 2015 grant valued at $1,500.00. We had a unique situation we had no applications for Secondary school grants 2015. However a one off opportunity was agreed to award a runner up for the Restart Tertiary Education grant and that is awarded to recipient Natasha Urale Baker value of $500.00
Margaret Craig-Seuala studying is a Graduate Diploma of Communications at MIT, Resident of Manurewa and mother and currently on study leave from her position at James Cook High School, her role as the Pasifika Co-ordinator supporting students & families educational pathway to success. “I’m really grateful for receiving this scholarship grant, It’s been full on in my household and juggling my studies. This grant will support with material needs. “ Natasha Urale is completing her Masters in Social work at Auckland University based at Epsom campus where she also works part time as a tutor and providing support for Pasifika students, “I’m truly blessed to receive this grant, it’lll support me to finally complete my masters papers. Studying comes with costs and I’ve seen our Pasifika make the sacrifices, I’m very grateful I have this grant to support me this year.
National President Caren Rangi says P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A was formed to support our women & families, As we celebrate 40 years this year, continuing to provide opportunities like granting scholarships for Pasifika women, boys & girls this is an investment we value especially their growth and wellbeing of their whanau and aiga.
Northern Vice President Leitu Tufuga says “we encourage our women, boys & girls to apply; I’m so delighted we’re able to award these scholarship grants”. The recipients will be acknowledged at the Manukau Branch fono, Tuesday 9 Feb 2106, 5.30pm. Venue held at AUT – Manukau Campus, Manukau Building MB, level 2 640 Great South road, Manukau.
P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A Incorporated is a national non-government organisation (NGO) for Pacific women living in Aotearoa New Zealand. It was established as a result of a Pacific women’s conference held in Auckland in 1976 and became an incorporated society in 1977. All women are eligible to become members of P.A.C.I.F.I.C.A irrespective of background, faith and ethnicity – as long as they agree to support and abide by the aims and objectives of the organisation
