Fruzio To Support Birds New Zealand With $100,000 Funding Boost

A Nelson-based food manufacturing and distribution company, FSL Foods, has announced a partnership between its successful frozen fruit brand, Fruzio, and Birds New Zealand (formerly known as the Ornithological Society of New Zealand), which will provide the non-profit organisation with $100,000 in funding over the next three years.

The partnership will enable Birds New Zealand - an almost exclusively voluntary organisation dedicated to the study of birds and their habitats - with the ability continue its impactful work, which includes safeguarding, maintaining and nurturing the future of birds in New Zealand.

The partnership was initiated by the owners of FSL Foods, Mike and Glenys Glover, who share a genuine interest in the protection and management of birds.

“Glenys and I are excited to support an organisation that aligns with our own interest in the environment and the values of our brand, Fruzio, successfully selling healthy frozen fruit to all New Zealanders,” Mr Glover says.

The success of the Fruzio brand has enabled us to make a firm commitment to provide $100,000 of funding to Birds New Zealand over the coming three years.”

The funding is expected to produce a number of significant benefits.

“New Zealand is known as the seabird capital of the world and is also home to a number of forest birds that live nowhere else on Earth,” Mr Glover says.

“The partnership between Fruzio and Birds New Zealand will enable the implementation of projects that are essential for our native birds to continue to thrive, whilst also raising awareness of the pivotal conservation work undertaken by Birds New Zealand.”

Spokesperson for Birds New Zealand, David Melville, says the funding is already being put to good use.

“The National Red-billed Gull Survey (NRGS) is just one of the many projects made possible by the funding provided by Fruzio and we are looking forward to implementing many more projects over the next three years,” says Melville.

The partnership was officially announced at a private event, attended by Associate Minister of Conservation, Hon Nicky Wagner, along with representatives from the Department of Conservation, in Nelson on Monday October 5.
