Building creativity and enhancing collaborative skills
PlayShop's improv workshop series continues, open to all students years 9-13
After a promising and challenging first workshop with students from across Wellington, PlayShop will lead the second of its improv for students workshops on Sunday 11 October at BATS Theatre, following a week of national and international professional improv at the New Zealand Improv Festival.
Improvised theatre is theatre with no scripts, no planning, and no limits, and after watching the festival's offerings PlayShop hopes to excite Wellington's students by showing them how they can access their own creative juices.
Regardless whether students have performed improv before or this is their first time, this is improv PlayShop-style with plenty to offer regardless of age or experience. Afree class open to anyone currently attending high school in the Wellington region, the aim of this workshop is to open students up to the world of improv covering the foundational principles of listening, 'Yes, and...', heightening offers, and teamwork. We'll be building on our first workshop, but still accessible to those who missed out the first time around.
Through playing games, having fun, and making mistakes, we're looking to learn together and ensure participants leave with the initial skills and exercises to get you started on your journey to becoming a performer or troupe. Curious? Come along and see what improv has to offer you.
PlayShop Performance Company is a Wellington-based performance company that aims to create spontaneous, thrilling theatre. We create opportunities for people to experience the joy of playful interaction through theatre, storytelling, education, and improvisation. We are risk-takers, open to the potential of every moment, so that actor and audience share meaningful stories that arise from the present, and stay in memory for time to come.
PlayShop gratefully acknowledges the support of Creative Communities through Wellington City Council for this project.
