Kids Can Cook

Kids Can Cook Kitchen and our new summer POP UP cooking school programmes

Media Release August 18th 2015

Randwick Park Primary School, situated in Manurewa, is hungry for more as the Kids Can Cook Kitchen returns to once again cook for over 400 students and find the best taste testers. Our second visit will highlight easy to prepare food the children can make at home with ingredients that can be found in any pantry. Parents and caregivers will also join us for a tasty afternoon session as we help give tips and tricks on giving it go and "Supa Foods". Randwick Park School's motto is growing and learning together, this sums up the last 24 months of Chef Chris Fortune Family Adventure which first saw him cooking for his daughter's preschool and son's primary school before renting out the family home, and traveling with his family to establish the kitchen project around NZ.

In its first 2 years of operation, the Kids Can Cook Kitchen has been from Stewart Island to Kaitaia, cooking at over 300 schools with 45,000 thousand children and teenagers who have tasted the cooking programmes, which focus on teaching kiwi kids how to feed themselves. Chris Fortune says, “ sowing the seeds of healthy eating in our future generation of young citizens of Aotearoa is the most rewarding and important role that I have played in the last 20 years of cooking in professional kitchens around the world. “

The Kids Can Cook Kitchen and Teens Can Cook Kitchen are currently looking at running school holiday programmes. The students will be able to tune in their taste buds into what is growing around them and what are the best edible options when are surrounded by fast food and un-savoury temptations. Mr Fortune is currently looking at a number of locations NZ wide. If you want to see the Summer Cooking School popping up in a town near you, register your interest online at www.kidscancookkitchen.org.nz .
