SIT tutor recognised for business award   14 Nov 2014

SIT Hospitality and tourism tutor Sarang Harake was acknowledged for his contribution to the hospitality sector at the Queenstown Business Awards on Saturday 8 November. Sarang who also works as the Food and Beverage Manager for both Sky City Casinos in Queenstown was nominated for his strong performance in creating changes such as the Wild Tyme Restaurant turning it into a Sports Bar and initiating the 10 for 10 lunches which have both become largely popular for tourists and locals.

Holding a Postgraduate degree in Hotel Management and Hospitality Sarang started his career as an apprentice at Intercontinental Wellington, moving his way up to Assistant Restaurant & Bar Manager. He then took on the challenge as a Restaurant/Bar Manager at Skyline Rotorua, before seeing the bright lights of Queenstown to become Food and Beverage Manager for Millennium Hotel. Sarang then moved onto his present position managing two restaurants and three Bars under the two Sky City Casino establishments in Queenstown, while also leading his busy life as part time tutor on the Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management at SIT’s Queenstown Campus.

Richard (Surname?) General Manager for Sky City Queenstown states “Since SKYCITY took full ownership of the Queenstown casino we regularly host VVIP international guests from around the world. This is a critical part of Sarang’s role and he has ensured his team deliver exceptional service. Many of our guests come from China and Sarang has developed a tailored menu suited to their tastes. A grade A has also been achieved for the Wild Tyme Restaurant”

Amanda Watt Queenstown Campus Manager adds “Sarang has been teaching on the Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management programme at SIT Queenstown for the last two years. His drive to succeed and professionalism is an inspiration to our students.
