Community Welcome At NorthTec
Free food, face painting, family fun and games will all be on the agenda on Sunday, 9 November, when NorthTec throws open its doors to the whole community.
NorthTec’s first Community Day will be held at the Raumanga campus, from 10am to 2pm. All are welcome to come along and have some fun with the family, as well as finding out about programmes on offer for 2015.
There will be live stage entertainment, including a performance by Ben Ratima from local band Soljah, and a host of free activities, including mini-manicures provided by NorthTec’s beauty students, gumboot tossing organised by the Whangarei Young Farmers, and games like volleyball and tug-o-war.
Free vegetable seedlings grown by our horticulture students will be available for budding gardeners to take home.
There’ll be plenty of food and drink on offer, including a free sausage sizzle and candy floss, plus ice creams and tasty, nutritious lunches cooked by NorthTec hospitality students, on sale for just $5.
Young visitors can enjoy a free ride on a mini horse and cart, and have the chance to meet Tane, the Northland Taniwhas’ mascot. They can also find out all about the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, coming to New Zealand and Whangarei next year.
Community-based groups taking part include People Potential, Habitat for Humanity, Whangarei Parents Centre, Radio Lollipop and many more.
NorthTec is also inviting locals who want to make plans for their education to come along to Community Day, to find out anything they need to know about studying at Northland’s largest tertiary education provider.
All NorthTec programme areas will be represented, with interactive games and tutors and students on hand to talk to visitors about their study plans. The event will offer prospective students the chance to find out more about specific programmes, or to pick up some information about NorthTec.
NorthTec Community Day will take place at the campus in Raumanga Valley Road, with all the action happening near the marae, at Gate 1. Parking will be available on the campus or on Raumanga Valley Road.
