2014/15 Community Grants

Community Grants help local organisations pay for specific projects or maintenance of facilities that benefit our communities.

Applications for the 2014/2015 Community Grants funding round have been assessed by each Community Board area and allocated as shown below.

"Congratulations to all the recipients, I know the Community Boards found it hard to make a decision, as always, there were more applicants than funds," said David Hammond, Chief Executive. Really good to see money going back to the communities for the benefit of all," he added.

The groups that have been allocated funding are required to complete the Expenditure Declaration form following expenditure of the grant prior to 30 June 2015.

Coromandel-Colville Community Board

The Coromandel-Colville Community Board allocated an amount of $13,300 for 2014/15 to these organisations

• Coromandel RSA - ANZAC Ceremonies 2015 $1,000

• Kauri 2000 Trust - To enhance the entrance to the Kauri Hill Walking Track $1,500

• Coromandel Youth Forum - Venue hire and equipment $2,500

• Coville Social Service Collective - Annual Community Festival $1,000

• Coromandel Community Organic Garden - To provide garden accessories for volunteers and users $500

• Koputauaki Combined Community Centre - To assist with resources for kapa haka costumes $500

• Coromandel Sea Rescue - For testing and maintenance of safety equipment $800

• Coromandel Youth Support Assn - To assist with administration costs $2,500

• Harataunga Beach Road - Maintenance to the beach access road for public use $1,500

• The Parenting Place - Attitude Youth Division - To deliver drug and alcohol programmes to the Coromandel Area School Year 10 students $1,000

• Te Korowai Hauora O Hauraki - To assist with the cost of a touch screen health kiosk $500

Mercury Bay Community Board

The Tairua-Pauanui Community Board allocated an amount of $55,818.30 for 2014/2015 to these organisations:

• Whenuakite Country Kids - for art supplies for art projects $500

• Creative mercury Bay Trust - to contribute towards marketing and publicity costs $1,278

• Mercury bay Recreation Trust - for trestle tables and chairs for Mercury bay Sports Park users $4,951

• Mercury Bay Museum - for updating and reprinting Museum brochures $1,645

• Mercury Bay Community Swimming Pool Trust - Contribution to replace and repair the old cobblestones that have become a trip hazard at the Community Pool $2,000

• Te Rerenga School - Contribution development of a playground $3,000

• Whitianga Bike Club Inc - Contribution to the maintenance of the bike park $3,000

• Mercury Bay Netball - For the purchase of netball post protectors $2,226

• Spirit of Coromandel Trust - to fund one student to attend a five day course at the Sir Edmond Hilary Outdoor Pursuit Centre Course $886

• Whitianga Volunteer Coastguard - For two wet weather sets of jackets and trousers $1,600

• The Parenting Place - Attitude Youth Division - For 90 hardwired books for year 10 students to support the positive life skills programme $140

• Hot Water Beach Lifeguard Inc - Contribution to jackets for life guards $3,200

• Order of St John Mercury bay - Automatic External Defibrillator for the Kuaotunu first response St John Group $3,492

• Project Kiwi Trust - Contribution to cost of kiwi programme machinery maintenance and establishment of the kiwi creche facility $2,000

• Mercury Bay Gymnastics Club - For gymnastic coaching courses for volunteers $1,400

• Whitianga Sea Scouts - Purchase of 10 uniforms and contibution ro name tape and investiture packs $1,500

• Kuaotunu Environmental Action Plan - Purchase of traps, bait and maintenance costs of equipment and trap lines $1,000

• Mercury Bay Community Support Trust - Scaffolding charges, transportation and erection for day camp 2015 $2,000

• St Andrews Community Church, Mercury Bay Cooperating Parish - Contribution to community programmes$3,000

• Mercury Bay Boars Rugby League Club Inc - Purchase of 17 Rugby league jerseys $1,230

• Kuaotunu Hall Committee - Contribution to the development of the hall website $800

• Mercury Bay Historical Society Inc - Arrange a programme of activities and functions commemorating the 175th aniversary of the wreak of HMS Buffalo $2,000

• Whitianga Fun Tri Feb 2015 - T-shirts for each participant, trophies male/female and medals 1st 2nd 3rd in each age group $2,480

• Whitianga Junior Tennis Open - Two day tennis coaching course for kids aged 8-18 $990.30

• A Taste of Matarangi - Marketing of the event via radio, publications and signage $2,000

• Matarangi Ratepayers Association - Support for the annual summer carnival $2,000

• Mercury Bay Art Escape Trust - Contribution to the design and printing of the Mercury Bay Art Escape 2014/15 guide $3,500

• Whitianga Community Services Trust - Contribution to Youth Space and the set up of and alchol free youth event March 2014 $2,000

Tairua-Pauanui Community Board

The Tairua-Pauanui Community Board allocated an amount of $32,000 for 2014/2015 to these organisations:

• Pauanui Community MENZ shed - Second annual event, building from the 2013 event $1,000

• Pauanui Sports and recreation club - Contribution towards the annual summer series $7,000

• Pauanui Library - Contribution to additional and replacement shelving for move to new library $2,500

• Pauanui Surf Lifesaving Club Incorporated - To assist in training and qualifications for volunteer lifeguards $1500

• Tairua-Pauanui Community Promotions - For annual New Year's fireworks display $8,000 includes maintenance costs on the community barge of $1,750

• Hikuai Community Plan Steering Committee - To assist in the completion of the Hikuai Community Plan $400

• Tairua Care and Friendship Club Inc - To assist with rent $900

• Tairua Elim Community Church Trust - Children's Light Party $1,200

• Tairua Information and Community Services Society Inc - To contribute towards its annual summer series event $4,000

• Tairua Youth Group - To assist with acquiring sports gear and the refurbishment of tennis/netball rooms to create a suitable space for yout $3,000

• Tairua Wet n' Wild - To help towards costs for its second annual event $2,500

Thames Community Board

The Thames Community Board allocated an amount of $15,000 for 2014/2015 to these organisations:

• Events Coromandel - For the Original Music Competition $500

• Surf 2 Firth Events Trust - For Surf 2 Firth Bush Marathon $3,000

• Thames Society of Arts - For the 2014 Thames Arts Festival - Steam Punk Circus Event $5,000

• Thames Valley Swim Acadamy - For the Thames Fast 25s $2,500

• Totally Thames - Trolley Derby $800

• Totally Thames - 2014 Santa Parade $550

• Totally Thames - Wearable Arts 2014 $1,000

• CAPS Hauraki - Kuranui Community Family Fun Day $650

• Te Whariki Manawahine o Hauraki - FreNZ Waitangi Day $1,000

Whangamata Community Board

The Whangamata Community Board allocated an amount of $25,514 for 2014/2015 to these organisations:

• Whangamata Scout Group - For the purchase of chairs and camping equipment $1000

• Whangamata RSA - To assist with providing a special ANZAC Day Service to commemorate the 100th Anniversary $4,850

• Whangamata Lions Club - To purchase replacement costumes, lollies, advertising for Christmas Parade $1,000

• Thames Valley Motorcycle Club - To repair and reinstate parts of existing tracks and bridges due to weather and storm damage $3,500

• Riverview Community Gardens on Mayfair - To construct a further six raised beds plus vegetable plants $2,000

• Onemana Surf Life Saving Club - Costs related to cadet lifeguards to sit their exams $800

• Whangamata Pony Club - To purchase a horse float and jumping equipment and to pay for instructors $1,500

• Whangamata Croquet Club - To assist with on-going lawn maintenance and mowing costs $500

• Whangamata Summer Festival Inc. - A donation towards entertainment, sound, lighting and security for 2 & 3 January 2015 $5,000

• Whangamata Sailing Club Inc. - To assist with the purchase of a new 4 stroke motor for the patrol boat which is used to accompany young sailors when they are on the water $900

• Whangamata Events - To assist with the costs of a traffic management Plan for a multi-sport event to be held in November 2014 $2,464

• Te Whanau Waka Ama O Whangamata - To assist with the purchase of a trolley to transport the waka into the water and two sets of paddles. Paddles the club have at present are on short term loan $2,000
