Australia readies for royal visit 15 Apr 2014
Prince William and Kate can expect big crowds and even bigger interest in their son, eight-month-old George, during a jam-packed Australian tour.
They'll see the beach, the bush, Uluru and Sydney's Taronga Zoo but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in for anything but an average tourist experience after they touch down in Sydney.
The royal couple can expect huge crowds and mobs of media on each leg of their 10-day visit to Australia, thanks in part to their popularity but also because of the enormous interest in their eight-month-old son, Prince George.
Having already melted hearts in New Zealand, he is on track to generate a continual stream of collective "aawwws" in Australia.
William and Kate begin their visit with an official reception at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday, followed by a boat trip across the harbour to Admiralty House where they'll stay as guests of new Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
Over following days their itinerary includes travelling to the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, to speak with survivors of the savage 2013 bushfires; visiting the Royal Easter Show; visiting sick children at Manly's Bear Cottage hospice and watching lifesavers in action on iconic Manly Beach.
They will take a look at the Taronga Zoo bilby enclosure named after Prince George.
A one-day trip to Brisbane for a city reception and tree-planting at the Amberley RAAF base will break up the Sydney stay.
William and Kate will fly to Uluru in the Northern Territory on April 22, leaving George with his nanny, Maria Borrallo, in Canberra.
While George is expected to accompany his parents on at least one of their Aussie outings, Kensington Palace has not released details of his appearances and there are likely to be limited opportunities to see the third in line to the British throne.
The royal couple are also due to travel to Adelaide to visit the suburb of Elizabeth - so named after the Queen in 1955 - before returning to Canberra to see the National Portrait Gallery and Parliament House.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott will host William and Kate at a Parliament House reception during their stay, before they fly home after attending a commemorative service on Anzac Day.
Melbourne will miss out altogether on a regal visit.
