FOCAL POINT CINEMAS TO OPEN IN PALMERSTON NORTH
Palmerston North is to again have a boutique cinema. The award-winning Focal Point Cinema business owners Matt and Julie Bell identified a gap in the local market following the recent closure of Cinema Gold.
“We are excited to announce we have secured a fantastic site within the vibrant fringe of Palmerston North’s CBD where we are to open Focal Point Palmerston North,” says Matt.
Focal Point Cinemas successfully operate in Feilding, Levin and Hastings and the Palmerston North business will follow the same successful format offering multiple options for entertainment.
Four boutique size theatres of differing sizes will operate along with a function room and licensed cafe. An on-site commercial kitchen will prepare food daily. This allows private bookings, and corporate entertainment.
“Focal Point offers people a night of entertainment with the options of both a movie and a meal, or the pleasure of a cold beer, wine or a coffee while they watch the movie,” says Matt. “We know from experience that is what the discerning movie-goer wants and we are excited about the opportunity to offer this to the Palmerston North community.”
The elegant and plush 1920’s decor that features in their other cinemas will continue to be used in the Palmerston North business, and a nod to the city’s heritage will also be preserved in the building’s design.
“As local owners and operators, we can offer flexibility to accommodate group needs and also a variety of movie offerings. While acknowledging Event Cinema do a good job of screening mainstream movies to larger audience, we believe Palmerston North has a market wanting a different movie-going experience.
The Feilding-based couple expect the Palmerston North Focal Point to be operational mid-2017, and anticipate employing 15 - 20 staff. At this time the exact location of the business cannot be disclosed.
