Analyst aims for second King in the Ring crown

Eight of New Zealand’s best established lightweight kickboxers and rising stars will be fighting for one of this country’s most sought after crowns in Auckland this Friday night.

King in the Ring - the eight-man eliminator series attracts tens of thousands of viewers and followers from across the world and is the biggest kickboxing event in this country.

Providing the ultimate level of endurance and skill the winner has to defeat three opponents in one night.

The current 62kg King, Hamilton-based analyst Alexi ‘Phet’ Serepisos, will be aiming to beat Wellington’s Sone “Arch Angel” Vannathy, Christchurch’s Nikora Lee-Kingi, South Auckland’s Joey ‘Filipino kid’ Baylon, Bombay’s Chris “Butcher Boy” Wells, South Auckland’s Sam “The Shank” Hill, West Auckland’s Kayne “Insane” Conlan and Kuala Lumpur’s David “Sanchai” Aung.

22-year-old Serepisos, who is an Analyst by day, is looking to make it two in a row.

“I’ve trained hard and I’ve visualized winning and losing – just to push myself harder.

I’m there to fight to win,” Serepisos said.

Event promoter and six times world champion, Jason Suttie, has seen first-hand what the 62kg athletes can do.

“I have a new respect for this class, they’re by far the fittest and probably the hardest hitters pound for pound.”

Two trans-Tasman super fights will also be on the card at the King in the Ring 62kg event. The current New Zealand Super Middleweight King, 'Slick' Vic Mechkov from ETK will be up against Sydney’s Nick 'Whiplash' Ariel. And ETK's Michelle 'Pressure' Preston goes up against 'Lil Kim' Townsend.

King in the Ring 62kg can be viewed in person at the ASB stadium in Auckland in front of a packed crowd of fans, on Sky Sport (including Sky Fan Pass) and on an international live stream on Friday 24th June at 7pm.
