The Chills Announce Feature Documentary ‘The Curse
Of The Chills’ Limited Edition Deluxe Preview DVD Out
22nd July & Tour Begins 22nd
May
'Underwater Wasteland' video from 'Martin Phillipps - Live At The Moth Club': https://youtu.be/Szut-DfGyts
Following
the release of last year’s critically acclaimed ‘Silver
Bullets’, The Chills tour Europe through May and June
bringing with them the ultimate unreleased collector’s
item.
A precursor to feature documentary film, ‘The Curse Of The Chills’ examines one of New Zealand’s most revered bands is set for release next year. The new deluxe DVD film preview package ‘Martin Phillipps - Live At The Moth Club’ will be available at a select number of live shows on the European leg of the tour and is released 22nd July.
Limited to just 2,000 copies worldwide it features Martin Phillipps’ performance at the MOTH Club in Hackney last autumn with bonus documentary material from the new film. This rare and special film preview ‘bookback’ includes new live CD, all audio from that show, and 20 page book with images and lyrics.
‘The Curse Of The Chills’ is a major new feature documentary that features never-before-seen live footage, interviews and archive. With exclusive access to the Phillipps family home video archive, the film provides an intimate portrait of the man behind The Chills. Exploring the source of his creativity and his songwriting aesthetic, the film also follows Martin on his journey from scenester musician to international star, then follows him on the downward spiral, interest in the band waned and depression and addiction set in. It’s an age old rock and roll story where Martin is unflinchingly honest about his heroin addiction and struggles with Hepatitis. Happily, there is a final act to the story, and the film is ultimately one of redemption and vindication of living a life that stays true to your beliefs – whatever the cost.
"After three decades of near-misses and dark alleys, Phillipps has finally embraced his role as king of the underdogs." Pitchfork
