Tour News: The Proclaimers Are on Their Way for NZ Tour April 2016
Scotland’s favourite sons The Proclaimers will tour New Zealand for four very special shows across Anzac Weekend, 22-25 April 2016.
Proclaimers' twins Craig and Charlie Reid and their band will perform in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch - embracing hits like I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), I'm On My Way, Sunshine on Leith, and Letter From America.
Opening all shows is New Zealand’s own chart-topper Greg Johnson - with his piano jam-packed with hits like Isabelle, Save Yourself, Now The Sun Is Out, Don’t Wait Another Day, and songs from new album Swing The Lantern.
Tour dates are:
• St James Theatre, Wellington, Friday April 22
• Horncastle Arena, Christchurch, Saturday April 23
• Claudelands Arena, Hamilton, Sunday April 24
• ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, Auckland Monday April 25 (ANZAC Day).
Tickets go on general sale at 9am this Friday 4 December, from Ticketmaster.co.nz (Auckland) and Ticketek.co.nz (other shows)
MyTicketmaster members can access pre-sale tickets for Auckland from Noon Wednesday, at this link:
Strikingly individual, The Proclaimers’ Reid twins have enjoyed huge success across the globe as the emotional honesty, political fire, wit and sing-along raucousness. The Proclaimers have carved out a niche where pop, folk, new wave and punk collide.
April 2015 saw the release of The Proclaimers 10th studio album ‘Let’s Hear it For The Dogs’, followed by a mammoth run of 70 shows in the UK and Ireland between May and December, playing to over 270,000 people. Their 2016 world tour continues the momentum.
The acclaimed new album follows 2013’s release of a 30-track Best Of album, and the heartwarming success of musical-turned-movie Sunshine On Leith (for which The Proclaimers songs provided the inspiration). It has become one of the highest grossing independent UK films and a critics’ favourite across the globe.
The Proclaimers’ famous fans include Dr Who’s David Tennant, and Little Britain’s Matt Lucas, who said in the band’s 'Best Of liner-notes:
"I find it hard to put into words quite how the music of The Proclaimers makes me feel. It makes me laugh. It makes me cry. It just makes me generally euphoric ... Sunshine On Leith says more to me about my life and the way I feel than anything Morrissey or Cobain ever wrote."
Born in Leith in 1962, Craig and Charlie Reid grew up in Edinburgh, Cornwall and Auchtermuchty in Fife. At home, they listened to early rock 'n' roll and country greats such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams.
At school they played in punk bands and formed The Proclaimers in 1983. With a fervent live following growing in Scotland, particularly in Inverness where they performed regularly, their first big break came late in 1986 when they were invited to tour with The Housemartins.
The New Zealand tour is proudly presented by Plus1 and The Breeze. More information available from Plus1.co.nz and Proclaimers.co.uk.
