Moody Beats And Massive Bass. Hit + Run Curates Auckland And Wellington Red Bull Sound Select Shows.
-Al DOBSON Jr. (UK) - CHRISTOPH EL TRUENTO - AFFSID KIDJHAgIFFY (NEW) - KKPO - BUSKA DIMES-
With roots in LA, Hit + Run have destroyed beats and bass in the UK and now look to NZ for fresh meat. Their third installment of Red Bull Sound Select curated shows presents multi-instrumentalist and beat maker Buska Dimes, boundless KKPO, music vessel Christoph el Truento, new artist Affsid Kidjhagiffy, and headliner Al Dobson Jr. (UK).
Wellington fans will hit Ivy Bar on September 26, and Auckland fans will descend to Whammy on October 3. H+R puts sound first, so these capacities will be tight, hidden deep in brick basements. Some moody, sweaty shit is sure to go down.
“Our first show enabled ‘Zackey Force Funk’ to strut his demented Tucson roots amongst local beat smiths in an inspirational stage manner that removed H+R from your average electronic DJ,” says H+R’s Scott Bulloch. “In the second tour, label champion ‘Kutmah‘ left audiences wondering what the hell had just happened, honing in on the music that is representative of his label IZWID. After performing in Palmerston North to a dark and dirty crowd, we found the nerve of our sound culture.”
In 2015, the venues promise to reflect post-punk poetry amongst signature basement beats. This will be an exploratory soundscape for H+R performers armed with mics and swirling effects through dynamic sound systems.
We welcome headliner Al Dobson Jr., visiting from Peckham, London. ADJR’s sense of vibric villages beats fusing with super danceable chops and bites have seen him perform in the inaugural ‘Boiler Room’ after the success of his first record with IZWID.
New addition Affsid Kidjhagiffy is a mind melding young performer with drums, twisted electronics and vocal skills. Affsid Kidjhagiffy is an avant-garde entity focused on creating music that looks both forward and backward. Not quantified by normal means, he aspires to make his music with the freedom and endless possibilities available to every human. He‘s the one observing in the back corner of the room, thinking of original ways to escape Earth by the means of sound.
“I was drawn to the sounds of Affsid whilst living in London. Recloose shot me some of his demos whilst he was tutoring him at MAINZ. I could hear he had something special.” Says Bulloch.
Ex-newbie Christoph el Truento will bring the clever lyrics, chunky indie rhythms and beautifully crafted sounds featured on his recent SSELLF project. KKPO is enjoying some time exploring Japan and Europe before returning home. Here’s to hearing how his experiences are communicated via his beautiful style of storytelling tunes. Buska Dimes has been recording with Bronson from Third3ye of late - so we know we are in for a treat.
RSVP on the revamped website, redbullsoundselect.com/nz now for a $3 entry. #BreakMusic.
