Stars give up the goods for charity dinner

23 July 2015

What do Brendon McCullum, Venus Williams, Dan Carter, Colin Meads and Madonna have in common?

Answer: all four have tickets and unique memorabilia up for grabs in a live auction organised as part of the 2015 Halberg Sports for Life charity dinner, hosted by the Harcourts Foundation.

Items up for auction at the dinner include: a table for ten hosted by Colin Meads at the 2016 Halberg Awards, a tennis racquet signed by Venus Williams, two tickets to Madonna at Vector Arena including dinner at Botswana Butchery, a 2015 Rugby World Cup ball signed by Dan Carter, an autographed photo set commemorating Brendon McCullum’s 302 against India, dinner with sporting legends Rob Waddell and Barbara Kendall, Poor Knights fishing charters and plenty more. See below for a full list of items available in both live and silent auctions.

On top of some fantastic sporting and entertainment items to be auctioned live on the night, Sky Sport commentator Scotty Stevenson will host a panel discussion featuring former Black Cap captain Stephen Fleming, former Warriors player Steve Price, New Zealand Rugby Sevens Coach Gordon Tietjens and Paralympic Sit Skier Corey Peters.

The Harcourts Foundation black tie Halberg Sports for Life charity dinner is taking place on Thursday 30th July at Auckland’s SkyCity Convention Centre. All funds raised will go to the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation, the charity set up by Sir Murray Halberg, which enhances the lives of physically disabled New Zealanders by enabling them to participate in sport and recreation.

The Halberg Disability Sports Foundation’s work includes a team of Disability Sport Advisers around the country who connect physically disabled people to sport and recreation opportunities in schools, clubs and in their communities as well as providing grants for adaptive sports equipment, lessons and camps.

The Harcourts Foundation provides funding to community groups around the country. The inaugural Halberg Sport For Life dinner was in October 2014 with close to $60,000 raised for the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation.

Harcourts Foundation ambassador Emma Revell says it’s fantastic to see so many Kiwis heroes and businesses supporting the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation with their time, or unique memorabilia.

“This is will be a fantastic evening out. Not only will there be a chance to collect some sporting treasures and incredible experiences, it is also an important celebration of the work the Harcourts Foundation and the Halberg Disability Foundation do together.

“And, of course, it’s an important chance to raise funds to help disabled children around the country. As an organisation we are proud to be associated with the work of the Halberg Disability Sports Foundation.”
