The kiwi version of "Promise and Promiscuity" Edinburgh Fringe 2015 22 Jun 2015
Penny Ashton is our very own Kiwi Jane Austen who will be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year along with her fiance Matthew Harvey who is also debuting his own performances this year of Dangerman.
Penny has performed this show over 200 times all around the world and received 5 star reviews and awards.
Penny said
"I like to say I’m related to Mr Darcy. The man postulated as the inspiration for the character, Irishman Thomas Langlois Lefroy is my 5th Great Uncle. His parent are my 6th great grandparents. It’s the story told in the film Becoming Jane. I have been doing Austen shows since 2008 and only just found out in 2013. I LOVE that I am related to an infamous figure in Jane Austen’s life".
Penash Productions presents
Promise and Promiscuity: A New Musical by Jane Austen and Penny Ashton
George Square: Studio Five August 6th – 31st
Follow the fortunes of Miss Elspeth Slowtree as she battles literary snobbery, her mother’s nerves and Cousin Horatio, all armed with a superior wit, excellent ukulele skills and generally being quite bright… you know… for a girl. Balls will be attended, cheeks will be pinched and manners will be minded, all with not one ankle in sight.
One Kiwi woman, directly related to Jane Austen’s own flirtation, Thomas Langlois Lefroy, brings Austen’s Regency characters to life with song, dance and appalling cross-stitching.
AWARDS: Best Performance in Comedy - Auckland Fringe 2013. Patron’s Pick and Outstanding Out of Town Production (CBC) – Winnipeg Fringe 2013. Best Female Solo Show, Victoria Fringe, Canada. Most Outstanding Visiting Production – Dunedin Theatre Awards, 2014. Weekly Theatre Award, Week Three – Adelaide Fringe 2015 NOMINATED: Best Comedy – Auckland Fringe 2013. Best Musical – Perth Fringe 2015

DangerMan
Matthew Harvey is… Dangerman!
Yorkshire Pudding Productions
Directed by Penny Ashton (Promise and Promiscuity)
Written by Matthew Harvey
“…channelling Dr. Seuss and James Dean.” 4 Stars, Edmonton Journal
Jump onboard this steadily paced, tea fuelled ride through a stand-up poetry world with no rules (excepting those of the Health and Safety act 1992). Matthew Harvey is a one-man cabaret of spoken word, comedy, and music. He explores such timeless, classic poetic themes as love, being annoyed at pedestrian crossings, smug aquatic mammals and wanting to be probed by a television doctor.
Matthew Harvey is originally from Yorkshire but now he lives in New Zealand where he's stealing their jobs and their women. He was Poetry Idol runner up 2011, was nominated for Best Comedy in the Dunedin Fringe 2012 and was a finalist in the 2015 NZ RAW Comedy Quest, beating out over 200 other acts to make it to the final 10. He has been a feature poet at London Farrago poetry night and at Wicked Words in Leeds, but without a doubt, his career high point to date, was becoming Castleford and District Cub Scout Quiz Champion in 1986.
“…it is poetry made accessible without being dumbed down. He rhymes and times like a wizard of words…” Lumiere Reader, NZ 2015
“Fun, funny, political, rich in irony, sharp in satire.” Theatreview, NZ 2015
"...good fun with life and the English language. User-friendly live poetry that will leave you smiling..." Vue Weekly Edmonton. 2013
Banshee Labyrinth, Niddry St, 8.40PM, PBH Free Fringe, Venue 156
