Jeremy Thrush takes Supreme Award at Hutt City Sports Awards
All Black Jeremy Thrush was a popular winner with the 450 attendees at the Hutt City Sports Awards in Avalon Studios last night.
Grant Davidson Commercial Manager – Suburbans, Hutt News awarded The Hutt News Hutt City Sportsperson of the Year to Thrush who was particularly recognised for his outstanding year in 2014, playing his way back into the All Blacks becoming Man of the March in the Scotland Test.
Thrush was also a loyal member of the Hutt Old Boys Marist Team that was the Bartercard Team of the Year and Coach Matt Lee was a finalist in the Pak n Save Coach of the Year category.
Trish Hina and Jill Westenra were inducted as Legends of Hutt City Sport.
Trish Hina is one of New Zealand’s outstanding sportswomen representing the country between 1991 and 2010 in Rugby League, Rugby Union, Touch and softball and Rugby League. She was MVP at 2000 and 2008 Rugby League World Cups. Her fondest memory is the Black Ferns winning the Rugby World Cup 2010. These days she is Social Worker in Gisborne.
Jill Westenra is a Legend of New Zealand Multisport in her own right. She has won four Coast to Coasts and competed in a number of other high profile events. In 2001, Jill won the China Great Wall arathon and was Wellington Sportswoman of the Year. Still competing she now works with mentally and physically disabled athletes.
Ken Laban Chairperson of Hutt City Sports Awards capped off a high energy and exciting night by congratulating the finalists and winners and thanking the entertainers, his committee and the event sponsors for once again making it all possible.

Hutt Mana Charitable Trust Disabled Athlete of the Year – Vi Coates, Lawn Bowls
Bartercard Team of the Year – Hutt Old Boys Marist Premier Team – Rugby
Tui Sportsman of the Year – Jeremy Thrush, Rugby
Crowe Horwath Sportswoman of the Year – Lara Andrews, Softball
