One Week until the Big Screen Lights up with Documentary Edge Festival!

With one week until the opening of the highly anticipated 10th Documentary Edge, the Festival is pleased to confirm further directors in attendance, announce the topics of the popular DOC Talks, introduce the latest in immersive screening technology and announce the final changes to the scheduled screenings.

The festival is happy to announce a stellar line up of subject driven and industry-led talks, free to the public at Q Theatre’s Vault. Documentary is designed to stimulate debate – which is exactly what DOC Talks will be doing this year. Topics range from the future of documentaries and NZ funding, to Asian participation in the Media. There will also be talks with Fugees founder Pras Michel about his film, Sweet Micky for President,Maya Newell with the Executive Producer of Gayby Baby, Lyric R. Cabral from(T)ERROR on the concept of surveillance versus freedom, and Larry Edelson from The Forecaster, on the economics of forecasting. Also new this year is the festival’s interactive and immersive strand, Story Edge will be introduced at Screen Edge Forum. No longer restricted to only traditional platforms such as the 2D screen, Documentary Edge is excited to launch the latest strategy to develop and exhibit transmedia and digital storytelling. In partnership with the NZ Film Commission and CoLab AUT, Story Edge will screen the film CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap and the immersive documentary CLOUDS at the AUT Campus. The highly anticipated and widely acclaimed exhibition will plunge viewers into an immersive world where they interact with the story content through the use of Oculus Rift headsets. You better get your skates on and get to Story Edge as screenings are limited.http://documentaryedge.org.nz/pages/125

A couple of changes have been made to this year’s screenings; new screening times have been added for Andrew Goldman’s The Desk (starring broadcaster Paul Henry),including a new sneak preview on opening night of the festival, 5.30pm. Of Men and Waris no longer screening in the festival. The time slots will instead be filled with Doc Edge Mystery Film - a screening that will either be one of the award winners or a film back by popular demand.
