NZV8 Touring Cars Line Up With Super Tourers
The NZV8
Touring Cars have confirmed they will be joining the NZ
Supertourers at Pukekohe Park Raceway over the weekend of
11-12 April 2015 to compete their final round to the 2014-15
season.
Further to that and after much deliberation between the two parties in regard to the prosperity of top level motorsport in New Zealand, the NZV8 Touring Cars TLX category will be joing the NZ Super Tourers on the grid to race alongside their fellow national V8 touring car category over the weekend.
There are still matters being considered at this time regarding the differences in the two quite different race models and the exact format for the race weekend however the two categories will be racing together on the same circuit at the same time.
This announcement should come as great news to the many V8 racing fans around New Zealand who have been clamouring for some time now over some form of a merge between the two categories.
"We the Directors for NZV8TC hope that this decision will be the right one going forward, not just for NZV8TC and NZST’s but motorsport in general." said NZV8 Touring Cars chairman Ian Booth.
Discussions over the future of the two classes and New Zealand motorsport in general have taken into account working together in future meetings.
"There’s a lot of work to be done in the off season but we will let you know more about that at a later date." said Mr Booth.
The NZV8 Touring Cars TL category will also compete at Pukekohe Park Raceway at the 11-12 April meeting.
They will however run as a stand alone class where drivers will compete for the honours of runner up behind Kevin Williams who successfully claimed enough points to take the championship at round five in Manfeild in February.
Previously the TL category has raced on the grid alongside the faster TLX category.
Hamilton's Steve Taylor currently sits in second place in the championship and will be holding off Auckland's Brad Lathrope in third, Winton's Nathan Pilcher in fourth and Featherstone's Brendon Murphy in fifth.
Each of these drivers are in reach of being runner up to 2014-15 NZV8 Touring Cars Champion Kevin Williams from Auckland.
In the NZV8 Touring Cars TLX category Australia's Jason Bargwanna currently leads over defending champion Nick Ross from Cambridge. With this change in format the final round promises to be incredibly exciting and sure to provide thrilling racing between these two and the rest of the TLX drivers while also amongst the V8ST cars.
