Team heli-hiking newest team bonding experience for Queenstown Mountain Holidays
Queenstown’s only professional mountain guiding company, Queenstown Mountain Holidays, has launched a team-building heli-hike experience to aid corporates to build better teams in an inspiring environment.
The newly-launched Queenstown team building heli-hike is aimed at corporate groups looking to have a team bonding experience that’s different from the normal culture of corporate trips, while still providing a fulfilling experience.
Queenstown Mountain Holidays owner and experienced guide, Mike Madden, recently took a corporate group of eight people from international company Nespresso to helicopter ridge in Queenstown.
“Starting with a spectacular helicopter flight from Queenstown to the ridge, the trip incorporated a four hour walk along a spectacular and exposed ridge line (nicknamed helicopter ridge) providing a moderate challenge for the group to complete as a team.”
“It’s a spectacular walk through alpine tussocks with incredible views of Lake Wakatipu and the highest mountains surrounding Queenstown including views of Mt Aspiring,” said Mr Madden.
“The highlight of the trip is climbing to the peak’s summit. After enjoying the rewarding views from the summit the team enjoyed a picnic lunch put together by a local café before returning to Queenstown.”
“As most corporate groups will have mixed abilities and fitness levels, the team challenge is for everyone to get from the start to the finish of the ridge.
“This will mean that the stronger members of the team will have to help the other group members. The level of difficulty can be adjusted for the strength of the group depending on the route taken on the ridge by the guide,” he said.
Before Mr Madden became a professional IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations) guide he spent several years studying and working in outdoor education, working as an instructor and facilitator for New Zealand’s leading outdoor education centre teaching team and leadership skills.
Nespresso event organiser Kathryn Rogers-Stucky said the trip was “an unforgettable experience for the Nespresso Leadership Team”.
“One of the attendees, Guillaume, said that it was fantastic (albeit sometimes a bit hairy) on the ridge.
“Seamless delivery and well organized, it was a pleasure working with you - your enthusiasm and straightforward approach was much appreciated and we hope to be able to recommend your business for another Nestle event soon,” said Mrs Rogers-Stucky.
The Nespresso Leadership trip was the first of many for Queenstown Mountain Holidays which has carved a niche in the market, appealing to management and senior executives looking for something a little different for their next business away event or incentive trip.
