Following their opening round away win, the Kia Magic are looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd in Tauranga next Monday night, as they play the second of three Australian opponents to start the ANZ Championship.
Kia Magic coach Julie Fitzgerald said it was important for her side to take the confidence gained from the first-up win, into the home game against the Swifts.
“That win (against the Thunderbirds) was really good for our younger players especially – it’s given them the belief and confidence that they can perform at this level,” said Fitzgerald.
“We need to take that same degree of confidence into what will be another tough game against Australian opposition.”
The NSW Swifts were also week one winners, accounting for the Southern Steel in Invercargill. They are also likely to have last season’s one-point playoff loss to the Kia Magic still fresh on their minds.
“We love playing at home in front of our passionate fans and we’ve received so much support through social media since beating the Thunderbirds.
“It really does lift the girls and we know we’ll need to be better than last week to beat the Swifts, and a loud and vocal atmosphere in Tauranga next Monday night will certainly help.”
Kia Magic fans can purchase tickets through Ticketek for the 7:40pm, 9 March game at Tauranga’s ASB Arena.
There will be plenty of activity for the crowd to enjoy on top of the netball action.
Quarter-time ANZ Championship entertainment will be provided by the wobble pass, where two teams of two will take the court to win cash.
Kia will have a surprise at half-time for some lucky fans who have been successful in shooting a hoop attached to a Kia Magic branded Sportage before the game.
At three-quarter time, the Hits slingshot will fire T-shirts to sections of the crowd making the most noise, one of which will contain a cash prize.
Lucky season pass holders will deliver the ball and toss the coin, Drive Sober will utilise the big screen, while three mascots will also keep fans entertained, with the team’s mascot Monzee, joined by Mother Earth’s Basil McNuts and the Lodge City Rentals mascot.
