Cigna Round the Bays 2015 update

Registrations for Wellingtons iconic Cigna Round the Bays are well under way and are selling faster than ever.

According to event organisers, registrations have soared in the New Year as participants rushed to snatch up the last of the Early Bird prices which closed early January.

There are currently over 500 corporate and social teams registered, with many local organisations taking the opportunity to participate as a group and encouraging employees to take part. Team registrations close on Friday, 30 January.

With a capacity of 14,500 participants, registrations have surpassed the half way mark and are sitting at approximately 10,000. The event has seen consecutive sell outs since 2012 and organisers believe the event will once again reach capacity well before the crowd gathers at the start line on Sunday, 22 February.

Cigna Round the Bays includes the 6.5km Fun Run/Walk, Snapper 10km and Cigna Achilles Half Marathon.

New to the 2015 event is the 6.5km Buggy Walk, an extension of Sport Wellingtons monthly Buggy Walks that take place around the Wellington region.

The event welcomed Cigna Insurance New Zealand on board as principal sponsor for the 2015 event. Event Director James King says Cigna have played a huge role in the organisation of the event and will be participating in full force on the day alongside participants and event organisers, Sport Wellington.

“It has been great to work with Cigna on this year’s event; they have come on board with a number of fantastic ideas and will even be stationed along the course this year cheering on the crowds” say King.

“We’ve got more activities than ever planned for the day. Once again participants will be met with entertainment and encouragement during their run or walk, before crossing the finish line and arriving at the Kilbirnie Park Festival for food, fun, activities and prizes.”

Local Wellington talent The Bone$ have been announced as the premier entertainment at the Kilbirnie Park Festival. The Bone$ bring together some of Wellington's finest musicians. This high energy swampfunk/rock and soul band is sure to get participants back up and moving after their run. They will be backed up by three piece tribute group The Beat Girls who are back at the event for a second year, after performing in 2007.

People who are yet to register are encouraged to do so soon to ensure their spot at the start line of the biggest Cigna Round the Bays to date. For more information and to enter today, go to cignaroundthebays.co.nz.
