BMW New Zealand Open announces ‘Open Sounds’ headlined by popular Kiwi musician Benny Tipene

Organisers of the BMW New Zealand Open last night (Tuesday November 25) announced that popular Kiwi songwriter and musician Benny Tipene will headline the event’s ‘Open Sounds by Amisfield’ concert.

Open Sounds by Amisfield -- an open air concert held on the Friday night of the tournament -- will be held at The Hills as part of the 2015 BMW New Zealand Open in Queenstown from Thursday March 12 to Sunday March 15 2015.

The family-friendly Open Sounds concert, presented by award-winning Queenstown wine company Amisfield, will start from 6pm after play finishes on Friday March 13 and is free for those attending the golf. Youngsters 18 and under are eligible for free entry to the tournament for all four days.

This year’s event saw iconic Kiwi songstress Anika Moa wowed crowds with a magical set, and in 2012 it was the turn of singer-songwriter Jamie McDell.

Located at popular food, wine and entertainment zone 'The 19th', the outdoor event offers a social, friendly and relaxed opportunity for people to gather in "a stunning and spectacular environment" to enjoy the best of Kiwi music, food and wine.

BMW New Zealand Open tournament director Michael Glading said he was "excited" to offer the highest calibre of musical entertainment for another year.

"We're very pleased to announce that Open Sounds will be back this year, with the help once again of our exclusive wine sponsors Amisfield," he said.

"The Open Sounds concert received great acclaim last year and we're sure it’ll be just as popular in 2015, with local bands showcased alongside Benny and an even wider range of entertainment, food and wine on offer."

“It’s the perfect way to spend a summer’s evening.”

Amisfield will showcase its selection of premium wines throughout the tournament and at the Open Sounds concert, cementing Queenstown's growing reputation as a world class wine and golf tourism destination.

Amisfield chief executive Craig Erasmus said “We are delighted to be part of this great event once again this year, and look forward to presenting our award-winning range of wines to all involved."

Auckland-based songwriter/musician Benny Tipene may not have taken the winning title on the first ever X Factor New Zealand, but that hasn’t hindered his rise to fame since first appearing on our screens in 2013.

He is now on his fourth hit single, with his new album ‘Bricks’ taking out top spot on the New Zealand charts.

Single 'Lonely' was secured for the launch of Spotify and Telecom's #FreeTheMusic campaign, and ‘Make You Mine’ became the theme of the 'Coke Loves Summer' campaign across New Zealand and Australia.

The past year has seen a whirlwind of performances for Benny at festivals and events up and down the country, as well as supporting overseas acts Madden Brothers, American Authors and KT Tunstall.

Benny said he was "extremely excited" to be performing in Queenstown.

"I adore Queenstown so will always jump on the opportunity to play here,” he said.

“My Dad is a huge golf fan, as am I, and this will be my first live golf experience. I'm looking forward to being part of the event and soaking up the atmosphere."

Organisers are expecting around 25,000 people to attend the four-day event and urged people to buy day tickets or season passes online and plan their Queenstown break now.

Open for all four days of the tournament, ‘The 19th’ at The Hills is fast becoming a ‘must-attend’ destination on the local summer calendar in its own right, a lively space appealing to golfers and non-golfers with a great atmosphere, a range of wine and beer on offer, plenty of seats and shade, musical performances and a wide range of exhibitors over the four days.

All tickets to the BMW New Zealand Open are on sale and available from www.bmwnzopen.com.
