Sammy Johnson Announces EP Release
Soulful Pacific reggae star Sammy Johnson is back with his new self-titled EP set to drop on Friday 28 November.
Available for pre-order now from iTunes, the EP features huge single ‘No Sleep’ which not only topped the NZ iTunes Reggae chart but also cracked the US Billboard Top 40 Reggae Charts, and fresh new single ‘Hey’, which debuted in the NZ Top 20 Singles and US iTunes Reggae Top 20.
Exploring themes of love and life, and the uncertainties that can surround them, The Sammy Johnson EP is a collection of tracks that anyone can relate to.
“The songs themselves are about life - the ups and downs of love and everything in between. I think definitely there is something for everyone in this EP,” says Sammy Johnson.
After conquering Kiwi hearts with his soothing reggae beats and soulful vocals, the bright young star has been taking on the US – playing sell-out shows at the LA & Las Vegas 7s, a full US tour with Californian sensations Common Kings and a performance at Island Reggae Festival alongside internationals including FIJI and J. Boog.
Also squeezing in a 2014 Australian tour alongside his US dates, It was this extensive time on the road that provided Sammy with a lot of the inspiration for the new material, as well as time to hone in on his craft.
“The Sammy Johnson EP Represents a new journey in music, I really wanted to explore more musically this time round; using more elements of old school soul and jazz. I had so much fun working with my best friends finding ways that we could mix reggae with these other genre,” he said.
Back on hometown soil and midway through a huge nationwide tour with fellow reggae favourite Swiss, don’t miss your chance to see Sammy live in a town near you. Sammy Johnson will also perform at the upcoming Raggamuffin Festival in Auckland on 13 December alongside huge internationals such as UB40’s Ali Campbell, Astro & Mickey, Ice Cube, Chronixx and Cypress Hill.
The Sammy Johnson EP will be available from all good records stores and online from iTunes, from Friday 28 November. Pre order your copy now here.
