Acclaimed Electronic Production Duo Modeselektor to Play One New Zealand Show
Robin Fernando, George FM and Flex are thrilled to announce the arrival of wildly diverse powerhouse Berlin electronic production duo Modeselektor to New Zealand for one show only, on Saturday 14 February at the Studio in Auckland.
Modeselektor's inarguable grooves seem to emanate from every conceivable musical genre, creating a controlled chaos whose sonic expression elevates the eyebrows of critics and the heartbeats of dance floors around the world. Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary emerged out of the tangle of post-wall Berlin, beats clenched between their teeth with a ferocity that forced music journalists to make up new words: bastard dancehall, euro crunk, acid rap, big bass techno, labstyle, happy metal, psychedelic electro.
From the wild underground acid house parties in a newly liberated city in the 1990s, Modeselektor progressed from DJ sets to a live act and began playing small open airs in Berlin. A series of releases have ensued over the past two decades, on both respected techno label BPitch Control and more recently on their own Monkeytown Records. Their music is dense, textured and rich with sounds never experienced before, drawn from a production ethos of "create, distort, recycle."
Making music that is as enjoyable for the headphone listener as for the sweaty clubber at 3AM, Modeselektor have a career-long reputation as heralds of dance music. 2011’s Monkeytown showed no sign of stagnation, journeying even deeper into Modeselektor's world -- where the dance floor is heaving, the music is magnanimous and the boundaries were broken a long time ago. Modeselektor collaborated with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, on a song called "This" from this album.
In spite of making such influential records, Modeselektor had always described themselves as more of a live act. The Modeselektor experience is a kind of communion, an ecstatic reverie swerving under the swagger of unexpected beats and intelligent design. Their multi-mood productions have made fans of almost every EDM producer / DJ around the world, their collaborations numerous and critically lauded. You don’t want to miss this one -- break down the walls and be a part of the Modeselektion.
