ANZ raises $1m for Daffodil Day
The bake sales, sausage sizzles, quiz nights, stair climbs and golf tournaments have paid off – official figures are in, and ANZ has raised more than $1 million for Daffodil Day.
ANZ staff members around the country designed their own fundraising activities, and volunteered on the street collecting donations from the public, raising a total of $1,000,022.
ANZ Chief Executive David Hisco said the bank set itself an ambitious target for what is one of its major sponsorships.
“We have more than 8000 people all around the country, and it was great to see everybody pulling together to get us to our target,” he said.
“We have a long association with the Cancer Society, and our staff are right behind the important work that they do. Helping New Zealanders with cancer and their families was a powerful motivation for everybody to go the extra fundraising mile.”
The ANZ Gala Dinner and Charity Auction attended by Private, Commercial & Business Banking customers raised $145,000.
Another highlight of this year’s fundraising was the inaugural ANZ Daffodil Day Art Auction where a group of well-known New Zealanders created unique artworks to be auctioned on Trade Me. The auction raised $13,000.
A Warkworth movie and quiz night raised almost $10,000, a Timaru Commercial and Agri Golf Tournament raised $20,000, and a Mt Everest Stair Challenge by the ANZ Marketing team raised $7000.
Cancer Society President Murray McCormick said they were incredibly grateful for the efforts of ANZ staff and all the people who had donated.
“The money raised will go towards scientific research into the causes and treatment of all types of cancers, and also to providing support services for people that are impacted by it,” he said.
In 2013 ANZ contributed more than $12 million in sponsorship and donations to the community, including the ANZ Netball Championship, the ANZ cricket series, golfing sensation Lydia Ko, the New Zealand Olympic team, the RSA’s ANZ Cyril Bassett Speech Contest, as well as the Cancer Society.
