Caddy Steve Williams to Attend School Golf Day

A fundraiser golf event usually reserved for parents and supporters of Chilton Saint James School will feature its first ever team of children this year - plus they will get to meet world renowned caddy Steve Williams to pick up some pro tips.

House of Travel Lower Hutt and Orbit Groups has entered a team of four school children, aged from eight to twelve-years-old, in the Chilton Golf Day run by prestigious private girls’ school Chilton Saint James.

The youthful House of Travel team – the first ever entered in the event - will compete against a full field of 23 adult teams, and get the chance to meet Kiwi caddy legend Williams.

“We’re very excited to have Steve Williams coming to the event,” says Chilton Saint James School principal Jude Fawcett. “It’s the first time we’ve had someone of his professional calibre attending, and I’m sure many of the players will be hoping to learn some new golf skills from him.”

“House of Travel’s team will get a fantastic experience being able to meet Steve, they are giving these children a wonderful opportunity,” she adds. “It will be great to see them line up against the adult teams.”

In its third year, the Chilton Golf Day will use the money raised by event entries and an auction to help fund arts, music, sports and academic scholarships to Chilton Saint James School.

A proud supporter of the event each year, House of Travel Lower Hutt will supply a $1000 travel voucher for the auction, as well as 110 golf balls for players to use on a special House of Travel hole on the course. Players will also receive a $50 travel voucher to use in the Lower Hutt branch towards their next holiday.

“Orbit Groups (part of the House of Travel group) has been our corporate travel supplier for some time now, and they are a great supporter of this event, and others that we hold,” says Fawcett. “Just this year they have organised trips for our students to Europe and New York, which will be incredible experiences for them.”

Several of the auction items on offer are also travel-themed, including a Bay of Many Coves resort package; a Bolton Hotel dinner, bed and breakfast package; and a $500 Interislander travel voucher.

The manager of House of Travel’s Lower Hutt and Orbit Groups Loren South, says she’s excited to be able to provide Chilton Saint James with the sponsorship needed to ensure there are some fantastic prizes on offer as well as support some of the region’s best young golfers with the opportunity to meet Steve.

“My team and I love to support our local schools in the area and the community around us and we saw this an excellent way of doing so,” she says.

The Chilton Golf Day is being held at Boulcott's Farm Heritage Golf Club, Lower Hutt, on Friday 19 September.
