Musical Director Alan Mansfield – Biography
Alan is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music (USA) where he studied through 1970-75 gaining his Bachelor of Music in Music Education, specialising in clarinet. In Australia he is best known as keyboard-player and once member of the highly successful rock group DRAGON, but he is also a successful record producer and songwriter. On an international level he has been keyboard-player for the late singer, ROBERT PALMER (‘Simply Irresistible’, ‘Addicted to Love’) since 1979.

It was a world tour as keyboard player with BETTE MIDLER in 1978/79 which created an opportunity for many Australian artists to experience his unique style. Alan enjoyed his Australian ‘stop-over’ so much that Sydney became his alternative international base.
Following that tour saw the beginning of his commitment to Robert Palmer as his main keyboard-player and the start of recording and production with many artists in Australia.
One of these was “DRAGON” for whom he produced the Top 5 singles “RAIN” and “MAGIC” prior to joining the band. In 1993 he toured with English band “UB40” on their world tour which lasted fifteen months during which a highlight was performing a one-off concert with Robert Palmer at the ROYAL ALBERT HALL in London with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Big Band.

Then it was back to Australia to promote DRAGON’S album, “INCARNATIONS” and also at that time he began writing and recording for Robert Palmer’s album “HONEY”. His most recent writing credit was with Robert and SHARON O’NEILL on what would sadly be Robert’s last single, “TRUE LOVE”. He toured extensively with Robert promoting the single on all major US Talk Shows and Entertainment Programs, (Jay Leno, David Letterman, Martin Short etc....) and the song enjoyed extensive airplay across the USA, Europe and Japan. Most recently, Alan has also been inducted into the ARIA HALL OF FAME along with other members of DRAGON.
